North American B-25 Mitchell - WWII Era Medium Altitude Bomber

North American B-25 Mitchell – WWII Era Medium Altitude Bomber

Here you will find photos of the North American B-25 Mitchell – WWII Era Medium Altitude Bomber. These static display and in-flight photographs were taken at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow. Nearly 10,000 of these twin-engine medium bombers were built by the end of WWII. The B-25 saw action in every theater of the WWII and after the war ended many remained in service, operating across four decades. It served as a medium-altitude bomber, low-level ground attack aircraft, and mast-level attack aircraft against ships. The B-25 gained popular fame as the aircraft that struck Tokyo in the morale-boosting Doolittle Raid in early 1942. “In the Mood” was used in a variety of war drama films including “Pearl Harbor.” These photos of the B-25 Bomber were taken on September 21, 2019 during the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Photographs of North American B-25 Mitchell

The following camera gear was used in the Aviation Photography of the North American B-25 Mitchell at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow in Colorado Springs, Colorado:

Close up of Tail on North American B-25 Mitchell Bomber on static Display at Pikes Peak Airshow

  • a Nikon D850 with a Really Right Stuff L-Bracket for the static display images,
  • the Nikon MB-D18 Multi Battery Power Pack,
  • F-Stop Gear Aloe Green Tilopa 50L Back Pack (with large Pro ICU),
  • a Really Right Stuff TVC 34L tripod,
  • the Movo GH800 Carbon Fiber Professional Gimbal Tripod Head with Arca-Swiss Quick-Release Plate,
  • with a Really Right Stuff BH-50 LR Ballhead,
  • a Nikkor AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4.0 lens,
  • and an AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens with a Really Right Stuff Tripod foot.

These static display photos were all taken with the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4.0 lens. The in flight photos were mostly taken on the Gimbal and tripod set up using the 200-500mm lens. Some of the wider in-flight shots were taken hand held with the 24-120mm lens. The D850 exposures for the images average between 1/80 and 1/500 of a second at f/5.6 to f/8. The lower auto ISO of settings on the D850 were set to the native ISO of 64 and camera set a few images to ISO 100. We used Adobe Lightroom Classic CC to process the images. Since this was a sunny blue sky day with very few clouds, we used Adobe Photoshop’s new new sky replacement feature to add clouds in most of these images.
