During Christmas the streets of downtown Castle Rock come alive with beautiful decorations and thousands of shimmering lights. This photos on this page were taken in front of the Douglas County building along Wilcox street. Each year the city of Castle Rock decorates Wilcox and Perry Streets making them come alive with an almost magical beauty. These twilight photos of Castle Rock Colorado’s Christmas lights were taken in early January of 2018.

Gear Used to Photograph the Castle Rock Colorado Christmas Lights
The following camera gear was used in the Landscape Photography of the Christmas Lights in Downtown Castle Rock Colorado:
- a Nikon D850 with MB-D18 Battery Grip & Really Right Stuff L-Bracket,
- iPhone 7 Plus,
- F-stop Gear Tilopa backpack,
- Really Right Stuff TVC 34L tripod a with a BH-50 Ball Head,
- the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8,
- and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8,
These twilight photos were all taken on a tripod with the exception of the iPhone 7 Plus images. The exposures for the evening photographs taken with the Nikon D850 averaged between 4 seconds to 15 seconds seconds at f/10 to f/16. We used the D850’s native ISO of 64 on all images and Auto ISO on the iPhone. All of the D850’s photos were taken using Nikon’s 14 bit RAW file format and then developed in Adobe Lightroom CC Classic using a single exposure. The Nikon D850 does an extraordinary job of capturing the high dynamic range of this night scene.
