Here you will find Sunset Photos of Longs Peak & Glacier Gorge During a Weather Inversion in Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado. These photographs were taken from the top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. A rare early evening weather effect created the dramatic valley fog and clouds below Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. This evening we were treated to an amazingly colorful pink, orange and yellow sunset. As the sun set in the west, the light revealed strikingly colorful clouds behind Longs Peak and Glacier Gorge. We were in the Park to capture the Fall Color and were treated to this colorful sunset scene. These photos of Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park were taken on October 1, 2019 between 5:55pm and 7:07pm.

  • a Nikon Z7 with a Really Right Stuff L-Bracket,
  • the Nikon D850 with a Really Right Stuff L-Bracket (post sunset images),
  • F-Stop Gear Aloe Green Tilopa 50L Back Pack (with large Pro ICU),
  • a Really Right Stuff TVC 34L tripod,
  • with a Really Right Stuff BH-50 LR Ballhead,
  • a AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens,
  • the Mount Adapter FTZ with the Nikon Z7 and 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens,
  • and a AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens.

These landscape photos were all taken on the Really Right Stuff TVC 34L tripod. The Z7 (with 70-200mm lens) averaged exposures between 1/6 of a second to 1 second at f/11. ISO of settings on the Z7 were set to the native ISO of 64. The D850 (with 200-500mm lens) averaged exposures between 0.6 to 10 seconds at f/11. ISO of settings on the D850 were set to the native ISO of 64. The vertical B&W photo to the right was captured just prior to sunset showing the layers of fog in the valley below. Adobe Lightroom Classic CC was used exclusively to process the RAW DNG files for both cameras.
