Photos of Longs Peak and Columbine Falls Just Below Chasm Lake: At 14,255 ft. Longs Peak, the Park’s most well known and iconic peak is shown here in this composition above Columbine Falls. Columbine Falls is located just below Chasm Lake at the base of the Diamond. The east-facing granite wall of Longs Peak, known as the “Diamond”, rises more than 2,500 feet above this stunning alpine lake. Upon completing our sunrise photos of Chasm Lake we started back down the trail. As we turned and looked skyward, we noticed the clouds forming which cast dappled light onto the Diamond. Gear Used to Photograph Columbine Falls Just Below Chasm Lake RMNP
The following camera gear was used in the Landscape Photography of Columbine Falls Just Below Chasm Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park:
- a Nikon Z7 with a Really Right Stuff Modular L-Bracket,
- F-Stop Gear Aloe Green Tilopa 50L Back Pack (with large Pro ICU),
- a Really Right Stuff TVC-24 Mk2 Apex tripod,
- the Series 2 Leveling Base,
- with a Really Right Stuff BH-40 LR Ballhead,
- and the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S lens.
These photos were all captured using the Z7 and the 14-30mm Lens on the Really Right Stuff TVC-24 Mk2 Apex tripod. The Z7 exposures for the images averaged between 1/6 seconds to 1/8 of a second at f/16, and f/22. We found that 1/6 of a second to yield the best water texture given the flow of the waterfall. We used the Z7’s lowest ISO setting at ISO 31. All of these images were captured as a single exposure and developed in Adobe Lightroom CC.
